I received a rather alarming phone call from a number that turned out to be a recording informing me that my Amazon account had been compromised, with a hefty transaction of nearly £1200 supposedly made. The recording urged me to press 1 to talk to someone about it. Naturally, I had my doubts about its authenticity, so I hung up and promptly checked my Amazon account online. Thankfully, nothing seemed amiss, which confirmed my initial instincts were indeed correct-it was a phishing attempt. A couple of hours later, I got a call from yet another number that relayed the same concerning message. Since then, I've decided to be extra cautious; I only pick up calls from numbers I recognise and let any unknown callers go straight to voicemail. Interestingly, I’ve observed that many of those unknown numbers seem to hang up as soon as my answering machine kicks in.

Pretty sure this is a scam call. They said they were calling from BT in London but the number’s actually from Sleaford. The person asked if I’d shared my BT wifi password recently because they said there were loads of errors on my account and wanted to check if the router lights were blinking. When I asked for some details like my BT account number to prove who they were, they just hung up on me. Definitely don’t share any info if you get a call from this number!
