I missed the call and they didn’t leave a voicemail. If it was Octopus, they’d normally leave some kind of message - I’ve been with them for years and they rarely call me. Whenever I get calls out of the blue from any company, I usually just say “Thanks, I’ll ring you back on the official number I already have.” There’s just so many scams going around now, I reckon soon no one will bother picking up at all. Also, the earlier posts here look pretty much like scammer chatter to me.

This has got to be a total scam. I’m not even a customer of Octopus Energy and yet they keep ringing me. I’ve blocked the number, but they still leave messages about my ‘urgent account issues’ - which makes no sense since I’ve got no account with them! And to anyone saying this is for real? I rang the official Octopus helpline to check and they confirmed it’s a genuine number they use to reach customers. It’s apparently connected to some kind of arrears (I think I owe around £40). The lady I spoke to said she’d pass on a message to the team to figure out why they’ve been calling me and that she’d email me with what they find out. I’m guessing it’s something to do with my contract renewal or the end of some government support payments, so maybe bigger bills will be coming soon. Either way, it is a real number - just a very odd way to get in touch!

They said they were calling from Octypus, my energy provider, and claimed the government scheme was ending soon. They said they needed to manually reactivate the payments and asked if I wanted to do it over the phone. They took my email and best contact number, trying to get me signed up. I then asked about the payment for people not connected to the gas network, and they seemed really unsure, didn’t know much about it, and kept asking where the money would come from and if it would go straight into my account. That’s when I ended the call! Be cautious if you get a call from this number!

Then today, I let the woman on the line know I had my reservations, and to my surprise, she then emailed me my bill statements and whatnot - everything seemed genuine and had all my personal details. Got a call from someone claiming to be with Octopus Energy. They asked me to verify a bunch of security details, so I gave them some wrong info. Weirdly enough, they said everything was fine and correct. Bit fishy if you ask me!

Got a robo voicemail pretending to be Octopus Energy, telling me to call back right away. I’m all paid up and there’s no urgent reason to contact them. Checked Octopus’s official site, and they say they don’t even have call centres. Their real customer service number is 0808 164 1088. Blocked the number immediately!

I got a robo call from this number claiming to be Octopus Energy and saying they needed to get in touch urgently, but then gave a different number to call back on. I’m actually a customer with Octopus, but when I had a look at my emails and account, there was nothing urgent from them. My phone flagged the call as possibly a scam, so it went straight to voicemail.
