Yeah, it’s for Octopus but handled by a different company that goes after payments when Octopus looks like it’s struggling financially. They’re probably just trying to claw some cash back. Those two don’t really communicate. Octopus customer service is rubbish and I wouldn’t trust them at all. Best to hold off on paying for as long as you can because if they collapse you could lose credit. Also, you can’t switch your account right now. Watch out!

Yeah, it’s linked to Octopus but actually from a different company that chases debts when Octopus is probably struggling financially. They don’t communicate with each other. Got a call from Octopus Energy, they only had my email but asked for my phone number and home address. I gave them my previous address since I recently moved. They wanted me to clear a £90 balance over the phone, but when I asked about the period the charge covered, they said from 5 Nov to now. I told them we moved out back then and have email proof the account is settled with no balance. Then they just ended the call. Always double-check what you owe and don’t pay anything on the spot over the phone.

Funny thing is, I actually tried calling Octopus last Friday to give my meter readings, but they were already closed early that day. I just happened to pick up right at the tail end of this call, and there was a recorded woman’s voice saying it was Octopus Energy trying to reach me. She said to press 1 if I wanted to keep the call going. I didn't press anything because the number wasn't their regular contact, so I didn't bother calling back. So this number isn’t trying to rip you off or send spam. It’s actually an automated line from Octopus Energy, used to ping customers and let them know their bill hasn’t been paid yet. It won’t drop a voicemail since it’s just a robot call, basically giving you a nudge to sort out your payment. They tell you to press 1 to chat with someone from collections to pay up, but if no one is free to take the call, once you push 1, it’ll simply disconnect you.
