Yeah, it’s for Octopus but handled by a different company that goes after payments when Octopus looks like it’s struggling financially. They’re probably just trying to claw some cash back. Those two don’t really communicate. Octopus customer service is rubbish and I wouldn’t trust them at all. Best to hold off on paying for as long as you can because if they collapse you could lose credit. Also, you can’t switch your account right now. Watch out!

Yeah, it’s linked to Octopus but actually from a different company that chases debts when Octopus is probably struggling financially. They don’t communicate with each other. Octopus is really bad to deal with, I wouldn’t trust them at all. Hold off on paying for as long as you can, because if they go under, you could end up losing your credit. Got a call from Octopus Energy, they only had my email but asked for my phone number and home address. I gave them my previous address since I recently moved. They wanted me to clear a £90 balance over the phone, but when I asked about the period the charge covered, they said from 5 Nov to now. I told them we moved out back then and have email proof the account is settled with no balance. Then they just ended the call. Always double-check what you owe and don’t pay anything on the spot over the phone.

Funny thing is, I actually tried calling Octopus last Friday to give my meter readings, but they were already closed early that day. I also phoned them yesterday to submit my readings, so there’s no real reason for them to be calling me now. Pretty sure this is a dodgy scam.

She went on to suggest pressing 1 to engage further. I chose against proceeding with that option. I asked what the issue was but she said she couldn’t say until I gave my information. Really sorry to say this, but if you reckon this is a real Octopus Energy call, you’re wrong. I have an account with them and checked the number they have on file - it’s just a mobile number. The landline this caller is using is actually my work phone, which isn’t registered to me, so there’s no way they’d know it’s mine. Definitely a SCAM!

Not a con or junk call, this number belongs to an automated reminder service from Octopus Energy. It serves to notify customers that their payments are overdue. Interestingly, it doesn’t leave voicemails as it’s a robocall, simply letting you know that you need to settle your bill. If you press 1, you’re supposed to be linked to someone from the collections team, but if no one’s around to take your call, the line will just disconnect when you hit #1.
