this mornin i got a robocall sayin there's a payment of £1600 taken from my visa card. it gave me a number to call if i hadn't made that payment. it was on my landline, seemed totally generic and not at all personalised.

i just got a call from some supposed firm named p###. they asked me to verify if i’d been involved in a car crash. when i asked how they got my number, the guy said it was from some place called the “road traffic accident department,” which apparently any company in the uk can reach out to. but when i pushed him for more details, he simply ended the call!

Loads of people are getting calls from people saying they’re from the ‘visa fraud team’, saying there’s been dodgy activity on your card. There’s quite a few twists on this con - some use automated voices telling you to press 1, while others have very polished callers claiming you’ve spent £600. Honestly, they all want the same thing - your personal details and, in the end, your cash. Watch out!

I received a rather unpleasant phone call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, insisting that I had some sort of tax debt (though he wouldn’t elaborate on what exactly that was, how convenient!). He then proceeded to request my credit card details over the phone so they could “process the payment.” I had a good laugh at that! Naturally, I provided him with a made-up card number and had a bit of fun until he got fed up and ended the call. Classic scammer move!

this one never fails to amuse me. i usually say something like, “thanks for ringing, but can i call you back in a moment?” then i pop the phone down, wait around 15 seconds, then come back with “please hold on, your scam call is very important and will be taken shortly.” after that, i just leave the phone and wander off until they give up and hang up.
