Part 2 (Continued from above) The rest of their spiel tries to get you to arrange a visit from one of their so-called 'Dyson expert engineers' and usually ends with a price offer, sometimes giving a two-for-one discount depending on what info you've shared. If you've told them you don’t own a Dyson, they switch up the questions to ask what appliances you do have, then push for the same sort of 'visit booking'. I’m only familiar with all this because my 87-year-old mother-in-law was taken in by it and ended up scheduling a two-for-one 'Service Inspection Call' that cost her £80.

It was just luck I was at her place on the day the service was meant to happen - they were late, so I called to check when they’d be arriving. While on the call, I got the full details of what they were offering. It sounded dodgy, so I cancelled straight away. I asked a few things and soon found out they had no connection to Dyson at all. The so-called 'Service Inspection Call' was just a fixed call-out fee, and the bit about depending on the inspection, 'more work might be needed' was just vague. Of course, they didn’t bother mentioning how much that extra work would cost.

A few years back, we had 2 of our Dysons serviced by this firm, they told us one needed a new motor and brush. Yet just now, that vacuum is still running strong with no drop in power or suction. Took the same model to a nearby repair shop not long ago and they confirmed the motor’s perfectly fine and the brushes don’t need replacing. Thinking back to that service from over 3 years ago by the Holbeach-based company in Lincs, they never actually fitted genuine Dyson filters.
