I got a call from a recorded voice saying it was HMRC, telling me I was involved in some tax fraud probe. I hung up before they could start asking me for any details. Surely, HMRC would send me a letter instead of treating me like a fool with a recorded message. Then, about half an hour later, I got a text from a mobile number (07903 558164) pretending to be from a bank I’ve never used, asking me to verify adding a Mrs R Jameson as a new payee. It all smelt like a scam to me.
