I gave it a ring back around 4pm but no one picked up. Tried once more at about 8 in the evening and it turned out to be a restaurant, they said they hadn’t received any calls. Sounds like someone might be using their number for some dodgy scam.

Seriously, ringing back numbers you don’t know is such a rubbish idea. Only total mugs would do that. It’s probably some version of that old wangiri trick. Scammers generate tons of random numbers and call loads of people hoping someone picks up. Quite often, these numbers actually belong to real folks or legit businesses, which ends up causing a whole lot of hassle for them. Sounds like this particular number got caught up in that mess.
