This number with a +44 code called me, so I looked it up on Who Called Me. Seems like scammers might be using the same number, pretending to be from phone companies. When I blocked them, I saw it was a Wi-Fi call - something I had enabled once but turned off later. Wi-Fi calling is usually just an extra feature you can switch on, but it looks like fraudsters are taking advantage of it, faking that they’re from my network provider. Funny thing is, although many UK mobile networks do have Wi-Fi calling, these days it seems like a trick that’s being misused more and more by scammers.

So this number rang me showing a +44 prefix, but when I tried searching it, nothing came up. Then I swapped the +44 for a 0 and finally ended up finding some info here. Feels like it’s one of those dodgy calls from scam artists pretending to be telecom companies. What caught my eye was that when I tried blocking the call, it showed as a Wi-Fi call on my phone. I had turned on Wi-Fi calling before but have now switched it off after reading more about it. Apparently, it’s a feature you can toggle on and off, but scammers have figured out how to exploit it to make it look like legitimate phone company calls. Most UK networks do support Wi-Fi calling, but it’s clear these days scammers are making a habit of using it to contact folks.
