Today, I got a phone call from someone claiming to be with BT, warning me that my computer was being targeted by hackers. They tried to guide me through a bunch of complicated steps, entering codes and downloading a 'security' app to stop the hacking.

I got a bit wary and told them to hang on while I spoke to my tech-savvy mate. They then said they couldn't keep me on hold and shut down my computer. No follow-up calls came through, so I'm pretty sure it was a scam to hack me.
