Had a call from someone pretending to be HMRC, said they were from the call centre and picked up straight away asking what it was regarding before even getting my name to check. Then suddenly they said I’m wanted for fraud, which is criminal, and asked if I had a solicitor to call.
When I asked them to explain, they said my accountant or employer messed up my tax return and I supposedly owe over £2000 to HMRC!
I asked them to tell me who my employer was, then they just hung up on me! Still a bit shaken up.
Definitely block that number and don’t hand over any personal info!

Got a call from someone claiming to be HMRC - total scam! They answered the phone like they were from the official HMRC helpline and asked what the call was in reference to, trying to get my name to “check my details.” Once they had it, they said I’m wanted for fraud, told me it’s a serious criminal matter, and asked if I have a solicitor. When I pressed them for more info, they insisted that either my accountant or employer messed up my tax return so I supposedly owe over £2000 to HMRC. I asked them to name my employer to prove they knew what they were talking about, and instantly they hung up on me. I’m still quite shaken. Be sure to block this number and don’t hand over any info, it’s a scam!
