6 yearsBeware of impostors masquerading as HMRC! I received a call from someone who acted as though they were part of an official HMRC call centre. They picked up the line as if I was speaking with someone who’d been waiting, before fishing for my name to verify my identity. Once they had that info, they launched into a threatening spiel, insisting I was implicated in fraud - a serious charge indeed! They even inquired whether I had a criminal solicitor I could enlist. When I pressed them for details, they alleged that either my employer or accountant had made a grave error in my tax return, resulting in me owing HMRC over £2000! Naturally, I asked who exactly my employer was, but suddenly they cut the call. I’m still feeling quite unsettled. Please, take my advice and block that number immediately. Don’t disclose any of your personal information to these con artists!HMRC6 yearsBeware of con artists masquerading as HM Revenue and Customs! They feigned knowledge of my case before retrieving my name, as if they were genuinely checking something. When I probed further, asking for specifics about the situation, they took the liberty of claiming that either my boss or my accountant had made an error in my tax return, and suddenly I owed the taxman over £2000! Naturally, I pressed for the name of my supposed employer, and just like that, they severed the call. I’m absolutely rattled.
