Super persistent - called me 4 times just yesterday. Like others have said, they say you need to switch on your computer to fix a problem, pretending to be from BT. They even try to tell you that even if BT isn’t your provider, they still gotta get into your computer. They’ve phoned twice today already and their number shows up on our caller ID, so we just don’t answer now. Makes me worry for those more vulnerable folks who might fall for their tricks!

Got a call from a woman saying she was with BT. Said my computer had a virus and she needed to get in to install some supposed safe software. Didn’t fall for it though. She was pretty persistent and sounded quite believable. Watch out folks, better to be careful!

IMPORTANT ALERT: As someone who works in IT and networking, I want to give a heads-up about a computer scam. DO NOT pick up calls from 0151 326 9872. They pretend to be BT tech support and ask you to install software called [#]anydesk[###], which gives them access to your PC. I spent a while on the phone with them to figure out their tactics and how they trick people. Eventually, I revealed my job and background - they definitely weren't pleased to be caught out :) - look after yourselves everyone!

A guy with an Indian accent rang me saying my local internet was hacked and some nasty files had been put on my PC. He assured me he could sort it out, but I wasn’t having any of it and ended the call. Then, just a couple of mins later, he called again asking why I’d cut him off if it was such a serious problem. I told him it sounded like rubbish and asked him to prove he knew my name and internet provider if it was really urgent - he just hung up on me. Seems like these lot are trying to plant malware or something, so don’t fall for their stories.

Just got a call from them saying my internet was unsafe. I played along for a bit! They told me to hit the windows key and the letter R, then asked what popped up onscreen. Got a call from a woman who sounded like she was East Asian, claiming to be from BT. She asked if I’m the one managing the internet at my house, and I said no, but she ignored me and kept talking. Then she started saying some stranger is trying to hack into my internet. I asked if she knows who it is, because I sure do! She said no, who? Got a call from some woman claiming to be BT saying my internet was compromised and I needed to log in. When I told her I’m not a BT customer, she got really annoyed. I told her I’d contact the police and threw in some choice words before hanging up. About five minutes later, a bloke called from the same number with the same nonsense, but when I tried calling back, it said no number or not available. I looked them up online and found this site, but no one seems to know who these scammers really are or why they’re still allowed to keep doing it. It’s pretty frustrating.

When I told them I’m not with BT, they kept asking who I use. Then when I said I don’t own a computer, they asked if someone else at home had one. When I asked why they waited so long to say anything, he started going on about needing access to my computer.
