FRAUD ALERT My elderly mum received a rather suspicious phone call at her home, purporting to be from a firm called Domestic Insurance. They claimed she had coverage on three appliances and was entitled to a discount due to her lack of claims. None of it added up, if you ask me. They inquired about when they might ring her back; I mentioned she wasn’t at home. They insisted she had insurance for a fridge/freezer, yet she doesn’t even own one! When I requested a contact number for the so-called company, the caller refused to provide one. They mentioned they would send some information through the post and had all her details correct, including the address, phone number, and surname. The final red flag was their assertion that payments would be processed via direct debit. Clearly, their next move would have been to pry her bank details out of her under the pretense of amending the (non-existent) direct debit.
