First up, they asked if I owned a home and how old I was. Then it felt dodgy when they started asking about my marital status and job situation. They never say exactly who they are or why they're calling, just keep saying they need me to confirm some info first. The person on the phone spoke in really bad English and when I asked who was calling, they just said "your benefits." They kept insisting it wasn’t a cold call even when I pushed back. I ended up hanging up before they explained what the call was actually about, but I’m sure it was some kind of scam. If you get a call from them, I’d recommend saying something like, "Just a moment, I’m transferring you to our fraud team," and then just leave the phone off the hook.

After the second call I decided to block it, but frustratingly, the phone companies allow them to just keep coming back with new numbers, so it’s like dealing with it all over again.

So, the base station light on my BT ‘call guardian’ phone started flashing, showing it was keeping an eye on a possible incoming call. Seems like whoever was calling just gave up and hung up once they realised they were being watched.
