Received an insidious call today, purporting to be from the HMRC Fraud division. The caller insisted that I press 1 within ten minutes to avert an imminent arrest warrant. With nothing to lose, I took the plunge. A chap with a thick accent answered, claiming to represent HMRC, and wanted me to confirm my identity. When I queried his credentials, he reiterated that he was from the fraud department and repeated his request for my name. I pointed out that he had initiated the call, so surely he should already have my details. At that, he abruptly ended the call. Now, the number seems to be unreachable. Quite a dodgy operation, to say the least!
