Got two missed calls in the last couple of days. I’ve got Prime membership, but I usually ignore calls from unknown numbers. I hadn’t bought anything from Amazon for like over a month, then suddenly, 2 days ago, I ordered a couple of things, which were meant to arrive yesterday and today. This morning I got a call on my home phone from someone claiming to be Amazon. They said I needed to renew my Amazon Prime trial within the next hour. The caller even knew my name, which was a bit creepy. I told them I couldn’t do anything because my internet was currently down and the engineer was meant to come fix it soon. The lady, who said her name was Crystal (which seemed odd for someone with an Indian accent), said they’d call back at 3pm and gave me a reference number. Fortunately, they never phoned me again.

My landline just rang and an automated message came on saying something like ‘Your Amazon Prime subscription is up for renewal and £39.99 will be taken from your account soon. Press 1 if you want to talk to a customer service rep.’ I pressed 1 and the person asked if I wanted to cancel Prime or pay the fee. I told her I wanted to cancel. Then she told me to grab my phone and open the App Store to type in some instructions she gave. I told her straight away it was a scam and that I would report it, which seemed to annoy her quite a bit. I ended the call after that!

I just cut the call straight away, so wasn’t bothered. I let Amazon know, and they said it wasn’t from them. BT blocked the number for me, but you can block it as well. Just ring 1572, then choose Option 1 if it’s the last number that rang you.
