Lately, I’ve been getting bombarded with calls like these, especially ones pretending to be some official government debt help scheme. I made it clear I don’t owe anything and don’t want their help, but they just wouldn’t drop it. When I asked which firm they were with and looked it up, it turned out the company went bust 15 years ago. So I told them straight out they were scammers. Next day, a different number popped up. They claimed again to be from debt management and mentioned a solicitor’s firm supposedly working with them. I said to ring me back in an hour and checked with those solicitors directly. They told me they don’t handle debt stuff or anything financial. I shared the numbers they’d called me from, and when they rang back, I told them the truth - they were con artists - and hung up. Two days later, another call from yet another number saying they were the genuine government scheme, complaining about impersonators. The audacity! I told them I knew better and to piss off. They kept calling from different numbers though 😞, all with the same accent that sounded probably Indian, though I’m not great at spotting accents. Now I just ignore any unknown calls, then Google the number later to decide if it’s worth returning. Something seriously needs to be done about this. I get at least a couple of these calls every week. They shouldn’t be able to sell your details from when you buy stuff and have to give your phone number and name. Hope this warning helps someone. These so-called government scams have tried everything - debt help, heating grants, tax allowances for married couples, and disability grants. They only seem to have my name and number, so if they ever ask for your address, make them give you theirs first. Real companies won’t hesitate to provide their contact details. Never give them your NI number, bank info, or those 3 digits on the back of your card. If you have to share info, say you’ll ring back on their number. And if it’s a mobile, don’t call back! Legit firms usually have landlines, and you can find their details on Google. If the number they give doesn’t match the company info online, make sure to report it to the company they’re pretending to be from. After all, when the scammers have conned people, it’s the genuine company that gets the blame. Seriously, this situation needs urgent attention.

Got a call about some unsecured loan, pretty sure it was just a spam. Ended the call right away, didn’t want to deal with it.
