On 28/03/2026 I saw a missed call from this number so I ringed back and ended up getting charged 0.21p. Turns out it was some kinda scam!

This number showed up on my bill with 8 charges of 21p each. When I spoke to my provider, they asked if I’d forwarded it to action fraud using 60599, which apparently costs 21p per text. I found out the actual free number is 7726, so I changed it on my phone. Maybe this helps explain why some folks are getting charged when they’re trying to text HMRC.

Feb 2024: Heads up, this number is active again. I spotted a 57p charge on my EE bill listed as 'extra', outside my usual bundle. There were supposedly three text messages they claimed I received, which is why they billed me. I rang EE, told them it was a scam, and the agent was great. She blocked any third-party apps from charging my phone, refunded the money, and said she’d raise a flag across the company about these fraudsters being back. Watch out for this one - it didn’t show up in my texts but appeared on the bill as 01494750678.

To 3, I keep getting charged a premium text every day, starting from Feb through to June, and I never signed up for this. Why would I even want this? This has to be stopped immediately. My bill is messed up because of it. If you don’t refund me, I’ll be cancelling my contract with you for good. You shared my phone number without asking me first, which is unfair. This number links to the text code 82222 for me. At first, I believed it was connected to a charity I gave money to for kids with cancer. After getting loads of messages, I blocked it over a year ago. But just today, I discovered they have been quietly sending texts daily, charging me 21p each time, sometimes twice a day. If lots of folks are dealing with this and the phone companies know about it, why haven’t the authorities stepped in to put a stop to this scam? It feels like dodgy behaviour that's just being ignored.

Yeah, I attempted to end my contract with EE around January 2019, but due to some strange text messages sent to this number, EE assumed my contract was still active! EE informed me that in March, I had supposedly been texting this number nearly daily, costing 21p a text! I hadn’t actually made or received any calls on that phone since January. I only discovered this mess because Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited sent a bill from EE for £247.23! Be careful with this.

EE told me this number belongs to Surestream Digital, which apparently sends out tube or text alerts. Thing is, I’ve never signed up for anything like that, and I don’t need it either. I tried ringing the number but of course it just goes to an answering machine. So now I’m putting a letter in the post to them at St. Stephens House, Arthur Road, Windsor, Berks SL4 1RU. The tricky bit is the refund - they want my bank details but there’s no way I’m giving those out. I’ve told them to just send a cheque instead. Feels like they’re charging me for a service that never actually happened since I never got any texts. Will keep you all updated on how this goes...

i kept getting texts from virgin wines even after closing my account with them. finally, i responded to the last message which told me to ‘text winestop to 60777’ if i wanted to opt out. i did it, but then got a 17p charge for sending that text. not a huge sum, thankfully, but it just goes to show you can’t be too careful with texts just as much as emails these days.

I’d never come across Tap2Bill before, but today I found out they’d charged me via my mobile provider for some premium service I didn’t agree to. I got in touch with Vodafone and they told me they’ve blocked those charges now. They reckon I might’ve accidentally tapped something, but I’m not convinced. Because of all this, I’ve decided to stop my regular donations to charity.
