On 28/03/2026 I saw a missed call from this number so I ringed back and ended up getting charged 0.21p. Turns out it was some kinda scam!

This number showed up on my bill with 8 charges of 21p each. When I spoke to my provider, they asked if I’d forwarded it to action fraud using 60599, which apparently costs 21p per text. I found out the actual free number is 7726, so I changed it on my phone. Maybe this helps explain why some folks are getting charged when they’re trying to text HMRC.

I noticed a bunch of 20p fees on my bill from this number. Checked the reference and it said NatWest, but I don’t have an account with them nor have I contacted them at all. Definitely a scam. EE ended up blocking the number for me and gave me my money back for the charges.

Feb 2024: Heads up, this number is active again. I spotted a 57p charge on my EE bill listed as 'extra', outside my usual bundle. There were supposedly three text messages they claimed I received, which is why they billed me. I rang EE, told them it was a scam, and the agent was great. She blocked any third-party apps from charging my phone, refunded the money, and said she’d raise a flag across the company about these fraudsters being back. Watch out for this one - it didn’t show up in my texts but appeared on the bill as 01494750678.

To 3, I keep getting charged a premium text every day, starting from Feb through to June, and I never signed up for this. Why would I even want this? This has to be stopped immediately. My bill is messed up because of it. If you don’t refund me, I’ll be cancelling my contract with you for good. You shared my phone number without asking me first, which is unfair. These messages are coming from 88222 Tap2pay. Please reply quickly, I’m really annoyed.

I’m with Three, and I've noticed a charge of £22.00 linked to this number. I’ve been bombarded with texts from 85222. I've raised my concerns with Three, and they advised me to ring 01494750678. However, when I called, it just went to voicemail. It’s frustrating to think that there are folks out there simply looking to swindle your hard-earned cash.

They keep putting charges on your mobile bill without your say-so. Best to ask your network to block the number straight away.

For ages now, I've noticed daily charges for texts on my 02 bill, all from the number 82222. Curious, I looked up this number on one of those phone check websites and it turns out it's linked to some premium 'competition' service. The weird thing is, I never get any texts from them, yet the charges keep rolling in every month. What kind of con is this? Feels dodgy as anything!

I've recently discovered that this particular number links back to the text service 82222. At first glance, I believed it was related to a charitable contribution I made towards a children's cancer charity. However, after several messages, I chose to block the number around a year ago, only to find out today that they've been sending me texts unbeknownst to me, costing me a staggering 21 pence each time - and this has been happening nearly twice daily. It's quite alarming! If this is happening to a large number of individuals and phone providers are well aware, one must wonder why proper action hasn't been taken to curb such deceptive practices. It's rather baffling, isn’t it?

I rang up EE, and everything got sorted in no time at all. The number in question belongs to a firm that deals with sending out texts for various quirky purposes. In my situation, I didn't realise that the short code had been listed on my bill, and it turns out it's the one I use to message my local radio station. Just out of curiosity, have you found yourself texting any short codes (those five-digit numbers) lately?

I spotted a 15p charge on my phone bill this month, and when I looked back at last month's statement, there was the same amount listed with an 001 prefix. I recently had a chat with EE, and they were completely unhelpful. Their suggestion was for me to send them an email expressing my wish to unsubscribe. For several months now, I've found myself being billed more than £8 a month by this company, and I only just noticed! When I reached out to EE, I was informed it was for some text alerts, which I've never signed up for. They assured me they would put a stop to it, yet I’m still seeing those charges. I gave EE a ring again, and they provided me with the phone number to call, but all I got was a voicemail. I’m at a loss for what steps to take next!

Indeed, I attempted to terminate my mobile contract with EE in January 2019, but due to some peculiar messages sent to this number, EE assumed I was still active on the contract! They claimed that throughout March, I had been messaging this number nearly every day, racking up a charge of 21 pence each time! Strangely, the phone hadn't been used to make or receive any calls since January. I only discovered this ongoing issue when Moorcroft Debt Recovery Limited hit us with a bill from EE for a whopping £247.23! Just a word of caution for others out there.

I was informed by EE that this number belongs to Surestream Digital and is associated with text alerts or notifications regarding the tube. I find myself with absolutely no interest in such services and wouldn't have opted in for them in the first place. I attempted to ring this number, but unsurprisingly found myself met with an answering machine. As a result, I've decided to send them a letter at St. Stephens House, Arthur Road, Windsor, Berks SL4 1RU. The real issue here is that seeking a refund will inevitably require sharing my bank details, and I refuse to do that. Hence, I've requested they issue a cheque instead. It simply isn't right that they're collecting payments for a service they haven't delivered, especially since I haven’t received any of those alerts on my phone whatsoever. I’ll keep you posted on how this unfolds.

I’ve just come across this Tap2Bill lot, and to be honest, I’d never encountered them before they tried to charge me today. It seems they’ve managed to take some cash through my mobile provider for a premium service that I certainly didn’t give the green light to.
