Got a call from a bloke who sounded Indian or Pakistani, calling himself George, saying there was an issue with my computer detected on their system. I asked him to specify which computer he meant, and he started shouting. I told him I could hear him loud and clear, then he ended the call. Definitely a scammer - I've blocked his number now. This morning, I picked up a call from this number. The bloke on the other end claimed he was reaching out concerning my computer, likely hoping to obtain access or something along those lines! I informed him that he had no business calling me since my number was registered with BT’s preference service, and that there was in fact nothing amiss with my computer. After that, I promptly hung up!

This time it was just a silent dial. Before, I'd get calls from someone with an accent like Indian or Pakistani, but using very English names - I've had James, David, and Peter so far. They say there's some issue with my computer, but as soon as I say I only have a Chromebook, they get all awkward and end the call.

Got a call from someone named "Josh" using this number, saying my computer wasn’t updating right. I told him everything was fine and asked which company he was with, and then he just hung up on me. It’s definitely risky if anyone falls for this and lets them into their PC. Lots of calls like this about. My 89-year-old mum even got one - lucky I picked up - where they claimed her computer was spreading viruses. I pointed out it was quite a trick since she doesn’t even own a computer!

This guy with an Asian accent rang me up, saying there was an issue with my computer. I played along, asking what exactly was wrong just to keep him talking. I work in IT myself, so I told him I was an IT consultant and asked about the OS. He said it was Windows 10, but then called me an idiot for supposedly being wrong. After about 15 minutes of this nonsense, I got fed up and just told him he was a scammer and to buzz off.

I heard in a radio chat recently that scam groups boost the worth of their contact lists with every detail they collect. So by just answering and giving my name - if they jotted it down fast enough - my info’s become a hotter commodity to sell around. Simply confirming your name or address makes your data more precious to them. Honestly, it’s best to not say a thing at all.
