Someone called saying they were from BT about an issue with my internet. When I asked them for my customer number, they just ended the call. Pretty suspicious!

Somebody rang me up saying they were from BT and there was a problem with my internet. I asked for my customer number, and they gave me a lengthy number saying it was a security code for BT. I recognised that something was off since my customer numbers always start with letters. When I told them it wasn’t my number, they just ended the call.
