Con cap Coin is a scam, so steer clear of Best Number and don’t get involved with them at all.

They always use the same area code, just swap out the last three digits each time.

Got a call from a lady with a strong South Asian accent, said she was ringing from UK Mobile. She claimed it was some kind of promo call and asked what mobile network I’m on. I told her I wasn’t interested. She then said it wasn’t a promo actually and said they could help me save money on my phone bills. I just declined again and she hung up.

29/04/2026 10:15 Got a call earlier from some bloke about loft insulation, sounded like a scam. He was a young man, probably in his mid to late twenties, clearly stuck to a script. I’m registered with the TPS but it didn’t stop him calling. If you use BT’s ‘Call Protect’, I’d recommend blocking the number straight away; if enough folks do that, it might really put a dent in these dodgy calls. These scams can be really harmful, especially for older people or those who aren’t too comfortable with technology.

I got a call on my landline but the screen warned it might be a nuisance, so I just let it ring out to voicemail. Luckily, there was no message and after seeing what others have said here, I'm quite relieved I didn’t pick up.

Got a call from someone claiming to be a local energy advisor offering gov grants for loft insulation. I told them we’d had the work done a couple months ago. Then they said it should be checked for condensation problems, which seemed odd since the council’s building inspector had already given the all clear! Soon as I noticed the voice sounded a bit off and robotic, I figured it was an AI scam. Blocked the number straight away.

Got a call from a landline I didn’t recognise. Didn’t bother answering. No message or anything left. Just blocked it straight away.

Got two calls in under an hour. They didn’t leave a message, so it wasn’t anything urgent, just a bit annoying really!

I’ve found out that the best way to handle calls from numbers I don’t recognise is to just let it ring through to voicemail. If they leave a proper message, then I pick up and reply. Just got a call from this number, and when the voicemail started, there was nothing but silence until they hung up after a few seconds. Reading through the comments here - cheers to everyone who shared their experiences - it seems pretty clear this was a scammer, so I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number.

Honestly, this AI call didn’t really fool me. What I usually do is throw in a question that has nothing to do with the call, like if they ask “Can you hear me alright?”, I’ll randomly reply “Yeah, how’s your day going?” Then, out of nowhere, the call just cuts off. It’s oddly quick!

So, Jo, the energy advisor, keeps ringing me but always from different landline numbers. Lately, it’s been a Manchester or London code, can’t keep track. I joked to her that with all these calls, we might as well be mates. Every single time, she just ends the call straight away! Funny how that works.
