Public Outcry Over Suspicious Phone Number: 01485520407

In recent days, a series of alarming reports have emerged about the phone number 01485520407, leading many to express their discontent and fear regarding unsolicited calls. The number has been identified as a potential source of scams that target vulnerable individuals, particularly the elderly.

A Distressing Pattern of Calls

One of the most distressing accounts comes from a concerned family member who reported that this number had made multiple calls to their 93-year-old mother-in-law. The first call was placed early in the morning at around 7:45 AM, and the caller bizarrely asked, “Can you hear me now?” This pattern continued, with calls being received throughout the day. The family reported the incident to BT, but it seems that little action has yet been taken to prevent these egregious attacks.

Vulnerable Targets

It is particularly troubling that this phone number appears to be preying on elderly individuals, as evidenced by the experiences shared on social media. In one instance, a 90-year-old woman was contacted and warned about nonexistent problems with her computer, despite the fact that she did not own one. Such tactics not only invoke fear but also place undue stress on elderly individuals who may feel helpless in the face of such scams.

Scam Calls Posing as Microsoft

Many reports highlight a recurring theme: individuals receiving calls from people allegedly representing Microsoft. One person recounted receiving a phone call around 14:07, where an Asian man insisted he was from Microsoft and that there were issues with their computer. When asked how he obtained their number, he became defensive and abusive, ultimately leading to a string of offensive remarks.

This type of interaction isn’t a one-off; several users shared similar experiences. Reports suggest that calls from 01485520407, or those claiming to be from Microsoft, frequently attempt to trick unsuspecting callers into granting remote access to their computers. These scams have the potential for serious financial damage, and many victims have already been duped in the past. One user expressed their anger: “I told him he was a thief and hung up. It’s infuriating how often these calls come in.”

Realisation and Awareness

Fortunately, some individuals have learned to recognise these scams and avoid falling victim. One user reflected on their past naivety, realising just in time that the calls were insidious hoaxes. They share a common sentiment that awareness is essential in combating these scams. However, despite growing awareness among some, the problem persists, indicating a widespread and ongoing issue affecting many across the nation.

A Call for Action

In light of these reports, it seems clear that action is necessary. Many callers have expressed disbelief at the inaction from both telecom providers and law enforcement. One frustrated person suggested, “It’s time for the phone companies to spend money on stopping this nonsense. If everyone stopped paying their phone bills, it might get sorted out much quicker.”

Calls have been made for various agencies to work together to create robust systems that would prevent undesired calls from harassing the public. The national police have been alerted to the situation, as it raises concerns regarding the safeguarding of vulnerable populations. The police have visited the family of the elderly woman to offer reassurance, revealing that communities are not alone in advocating against these scams.

Conclusion

The plight surrounding the number 01485520407 is another reminder of the lengths to which scammers will go to exploit the vulnerable. With numerous reports including threatening language and aggressive tactics, it remains crucial for the general public to report these incidents and stay vigilant. It might be time for the government and phone companies to take more substantial steps to protect citizens from such nefarious activities.

As the issue unfolds, it is hoped that prompt action will be taken to address this ongoing problem and protect those who may not be able to protect themselves. Until then, it’s vital for individuals to remain aware and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.

Just received a call from this number around half past two. An Asian gentleman claimed to be from Microsoft. When I inquired how he obtained my number, he simply reiterated that he was from Microsoft. Upon pressing him further, he disrespectfully asked if I was 'mad.' I replied in the negative, to which he retorted with an offensive insult, telling me to ‘go take a hike’!

Absolutely dodgy! Received a call claiming to be from Microsoft, stating there was an issue with my computer. When I inquired about their location in the UK, they mentioned London. However, I pointed out that the area code was actually for Hunstanton, yet they stubbornly maintained it was London. I’ve since blocked their number.

Following up on my earlier message about the phone call my 93-year-old mother-in-law received around 07:45 this morning, it appears that the same number rang her again this afternoon, asking, “Can you hear me now?” Clearly, it seems that whatever measures BT is meant to have implemented haven’t kicked in yet. I’ve contacted BT once more to flag this issue. In the meantime, the police popped by to check in on her and provided her with a direct contact number should she need to reach out to them.

This morning, around 07:45, my 93-year-old mother-in-law received a call from this number. She found it difficult to hear them clearly. After a few more attempts to reach her, they insisted she perform certain tasks on her iPad. Confused and unsure, she mentioned that she would have her son-in-law get in touch as she wasn’t able to comprehend what they were saying. Thankfully, they haven’t tried to contact her again. I've reported the incident to the local authorities given that she’s a vulnerable individual. Additionally, this number has been flagged with BT security and subsequently blocked across the network.
