7 yearsI reckon this was trying to scam me. Got a robotic voice warning me my computer or IP was in danger and said to get in touch with BT through a number they showed on the dial pad. That’s a red flag right there because BT wouldn’t ring you with a recorded message nor tell you to use some random number. If it truly was BT, they’d give me a legit, official number to call back. Plus, I don’t even have BT as my internet provider! The number they used was 01485 146 299, which apparently comes from Hunstanton in the UK, so it’s not looking genuine at all.BTHunstantonUK8 yearsAbout five days ago, a woman with what sounded like an American or maybe Irish accent rang up claiming she was from BT, warning that our internet had been hacked and telling us to press certain keys on the phone. My husband often gets these calls around lunchtime, but I only just picked one up this time. The previous call had a fake area code, so it’s odd they don’t seem to block the number they’re calling from. I didn’t stick around long enough to find out what they wanted; I’m pretty sure it was some sort of recorded message, not a real person. Usually, I check numbers on another site, but my ISP has been banned from using it for reasons I don’t know.
