It took them ages to find a way to unmute their microphone, and when they finally did, all I got was, "I’m calling on behalf of a team of surveyors operating in your neighbourhood..." which obviously suggested some insipid insulation 'survey' or the like. I inquired why they were dialling a number registered with the Telephone Preference Service. Their response of, "This isn't a sales call, I assure you," was quickly followed by a rather vague explanation of how they were unaware of that fact, claiming that my number must have unintentionally bypassed their list. I politely said goodbye and cut the line while they were fumbling to return to their rehearsed pitch.
