I’ve no doubt this is some sort of con! They rang me purporting to assist with my Windows updates. The accent was distinctly from an Indian call centre, no question about that. I wouldn't be surprised if their true intention was to gain access to my computer.

Had a ring from these lot, so I reported them straight to cyber crime. Then, as if that wasnt enough, they called me back and ended up calling me a right mother fxcker. Lovely bunch, really :)

It's so upsetting how older people keep getting these scam calls!

Some woman called claiming to be from Microsoft, saying they’d been trying to get in touch about updates for my PC. I just hung up on her straight away.

Loads of calls have come through from this number and a few others. It sounds like the people ringing are based in India, but they use some kind of program to make it look like they’re calling from the UK. One guy, who spoke really bad English, told me there was an issue with my Apple ID - total scam!

Got a call from this Asian lady claiming she was from Microsoft. Didn’t let her speak much, just told her where to go straight away. Didn’t fall for it at all.

It was really irritating because nobody said a word.

Picking up from my earlier messages since there’s a limit to how much I can type here. This is the final part, so bear with me. I’m sorry if this sounds like a moan, but I’m fed up with all these scam calls. It’s especially tough because of my wife’s condition - she had a brain bleed and needs plenty of rest. These calls end up disturbing her, which really worries me. Even though they annoy me a lot, I try to stay calm and patient, understanding why they happen. But protecting her peace is what matters most to me.

As someone with a disability, it takes me a fair while, sometimes several seconds, to get to the phone. By the time I answer, there’s often just silence, then a beep, and then they hang up. I’m pretty sure they’re using some system that rings a bunch of numbers at once and only connects to whoever picks up first, cancelling all the other calls automatically. Sounds like these calls come from those sweatshop call centres where the staff work long shifts, often up to 12 hours straight, with hardly any proper breaks to keep the calls coming non-stop.

Have you ever been to India? Honestly, it blew my mind when I wandered through some parts of the country, facing crowds of people constantly begging, probably thinking I was some kind of rich person from a land of endless wealth. At the same time, you'd see folks dying from hunger right on the streets. Most people just walked straight by, totally indifferent, probably because it's such a common sight for them. I’m not exaggerating here - sadly, this is the reality of our world, where a tiny fraction, like 0.01%, controls nearly all the money and resources out there.

Had a call from a woman with an Asian accent pretending to be from Microsoft. My missus wasn’t having any of it and told her off before hanging up straight away. I’d say do the same because it’s definitely a scam. For four days in a row, we’ve been getting these dodgy calls from various numbers, and one cheeky bugger even rang us twice using the same number!

For the past few weeks, I've been receiving calls every morning sometime between 8 and 9 o'clock, it’s really annoying. Funny thing is, when the pandemic first started here in the UK around March, there was a complete stop for a few weeks. But now, as lockdown rules have started easing bit by bit, these scam calls have just kept ramping up and coming more often each day.

Picking up from what I said earlier - these calls are totally dodgy and you really want to steer clear of them. Luckily, some banks do get suspicious and will ring you up if they spot weird spending, but it’s not guaranteed. Sometimes you might only notice once a big chunk has been nicked from your account. Also, be careful about software activation codes you’ve already paid for; scammers can swipe these and flog them on as legit, even stuff like your Windows key. Quite the nightmare, honestly.

Sad I couldn’t get to speak with this chap, but thanks for the earlier insight. I’m holding off on blocking the number, hoping he rings again. For anyone not keen on my no-nonsense style, you might want to block this contact ASAP. I reckon the call’s not from Guildford UK, but probably from one of those well-known (or should I say notorious) call centres in India. a.

I got a call from someone claiming they needed to update my Windows software. The person spoke with an Indian accent and kept asking me to open up my computer. I hung up pretty quickly. Then the phone rang again straight away, but this time it was a private number with no caller ID.
