I received a rather curious phone call on Sunday afternoon, where someone was asking me to verify my personal information. Naturally, I didn't give anything away and promptly blocked the number. Shortly after, I got a message from 7860 048000 stating, “Surrey Police/Council is eager to gather your feedback on their services. You were contacted from 01483 331312. Reply 1 for a callback, 2 for an appointment, or 3 for more details.” It feels to me like a scam survey trying to fish for personal details or to confirm what they might already have.

Some guy started yapping with loads of call centre noise behind him. He spoke so fast I barely caught anything except “Surrey Police”. When he asked if I had time for the call, I kept quiet thinking it was probably one of those automated scams, and then he just hung up. Right after, I got a text from another number saying ‘Surrey Police/Council want your feedback on their service’ with a number to ring. I don’t even live anywhere near Surrey, so I blocked both numbers and just ignored it all.

This number rang my mobile on Easter Sunday around 4:36pm, but I didn’t pick up. It looked local, but wasn’t saved in my contacts, so I have no clue who it could be. After checking the reviews here, I’m pretty sure it’s a scam. Usually, the survey calls hit my landline, not my mobile. So, be careful even if the number seems local to you. I’ve blocked it now on my phone.

If it was a con, she was puttin in loads of effort - about 15-20 minutes - just to check my name, where I live, and how old I am. She didn't ask for any banking details or tell me to turn on my computer or anything weird.

It’s the same spiel again about SCC & Council Survey. Nice welsh lady on the phone says she’s doing genuine surveys about local stuff and wants to get your views updated?
