Yeah it is a real EE number, the woman who rang me was really patient and took her time to explain why they were calling and asked some security questions. She also told me which page on the EE site to look at to verify it was legit (which I did!). They have a Call Checker list there. The call comes from a place called Clear Answer call centre.

From what I've read in other comments, it sounds like it might be EE. I had clicked on a deal online just to check out what they have atm. I reached out to EE to find out who was calling me and turns out it’s a third-party firm working for them. I’m a bit shocked EE lets these companies request personal and private account details without warning customers beforehand that someone will be getting in touch. The phone call felt just like one of those scam calls I’ve had before, but apparently this was legit. Still, no telling where my info might end up. EE did tell me they added a remark to my account saying I didn’t agree to speak with the callers, which I guess offers a bit of reassurance.

Hey, you really made me nervous when you said it might be a scam. Yesterday I got a call from the EE renewal/upgrade team using the number 01482971048, and I agreed to sign up for a new 18-month contract. They asked for my security answer, which I gave, but reading this forum made me a bit anxious. I just got a call from 01482971048 claiming that I’d called them on Saturday 14th May around 11:55am to switch my broadband to their service. I told them no one here had made any such call. The bloke on the other end got pretty rude and snapped at me, asking ‘how do you know?’ I explained that nobody was even home at that time and I'm the only adult here with my little one, so I wasn’t about to deal with their nonsense. Ended it by telling him to piss off. Definitely a scam, so I’ve blocked the number now.

This number called me today, 22-04-2016, and it was some bloke with an English accent claiming he worked for EE. He told me there’d been some changes to my account and that I should’ve got an email about it. When I said I hadn’t seen anything in my inbox, he said these emails often end up in the spam or junk folder and insisted I must have received it. He did know my first name though. Then he wanted to ask me two questions to verify who I was, starting with my full name. I told him I hadn’t got any email and preferred to wait until I actually got something in writing before giving any info. He seemed alright with that and said goodbye. I’m sure the call wasn’t even from the UK, just a trick to fool people. Of course, there’s been no email since. Don’t give out your details if you get a call like this - just ask them to send everything in writing. I’ll be telling EE about this, though I doubt they’ll take much notice.

Got a call from a lady who called me by name and even mentioned a couple of characters from my ancient password. She said they needed to update my direct debit info because my old details had been wiped. It might have been genuine since I've just changed banks and EE messed up the switch, erasing my old account without setting up the new one properly.
