Every one of these calls is just a scam, without a doubt. They always say something like "this is BT, your internet will be disconnected," but the thing is, I don’t even have internet, nor am I a BT customer. It seems like there’s no proper fix because they keep swapping numbers by just changing one digit and keep ringing. What worked for me was getting in touch with my phone company and asking them to block those numbers at their end.

Weird thing happened today. My BT log says this number called me earlier, but it doesn’t appear on my phone’s call history at all. I was definitely in at the time, but the phone didn’t make a sound. Maybe it was one of those super quick “ghost” calls that doesn’t even trigger the ringtone? I've blocked a number from Hull before, but this one’s totally new to me.

Right, so answering machines aren’t really that expensive, mine’s been handy for ages. Whenever I miss a call, it picks it up and I get the details on caller ID. If I know who’s ringing, cos their number’s saved in my contacts, I usually answer, though sometimes only after they’ve heard my message. It kinda trains them to hang up quick. Loads of those dodgy callers just chuck it down when they hear my message. If I’m not around, the machine carries on taking messages and I get back to them later. Then I look up the number here and block any nasty ones. Simple!

I came across a review about getting a gadget to stop annoying calls, but actually, if you're with Talk Talk they've got this free thing you can use. When someone rings, they have to say their name first - which most won’t bother with. If they do give their name, your phone’ll let you know who’s calling and you get the option to press 1 to take the call or 2 to block it. If you block them, they won't be able to ring you again. Quite handy, really!

Got a call from 01482823508, some Asian bloke asking if I was Mrs with a certain surname. I just said yes out of habit cos the owner is an older guy who’s single, and if I’m just tidying up I always say it’s me. They usually just wanna chat to the owner, who knows it’s a scam and tells us to hang up. I always check the number on 1471 so I can report it later. This guy said the government told him to remove our number from some benefits database. I told him we’re on the TPS list, so he’s clearly expecting us to be daft, then I hung up straight away.

I rang the landline and said hello, this Asian guy answered saying hello back. My voice was quiet cos of some health stuff so he just shouted HEY at me. I don't like being talked to that way so I hung up. Later I tried ringing his mobile but no luck, wouldn’t connect. After seeing the reviews here, looks like my number got blocked or something.

So a bloke from India rang me, asking a bunch of random questions, and I just decided to humour him. I asked if he really was in India, and he said yes, mentioning how tough it was there and that he was only trying to look after his family. We ended up having a pretty decent conversation. He said he’d take me off his list - fat chance of that! I reckon I’ll just get swamped with even more spam calls now. We already get a couple of these types each day, with the number always changing, and my call blocker is maxed out at 50 numbers.

I got a missed call from this number, didn’t pick up though. Just a heads up - if they ask you to press 1, don’t do it. Also, if they mention your name and address, never say “yes” because they might be recording you and could use that against you later. If they want you to confirm info, just say “correct” instead, definitely not “yes.” Better safe than sorry!
