There was this automated message asking if I’d been in an accident and I kept saying yes even though it wasn’t true. Later, my ex-girlfriend called and asked about the accident too. To avoid these annoying calls, I recommend getting a phone with an answer machine and a call blocker. Set your answer machine to pick up after about 2 seconds since these spammers tend to hang up straight away. Plus, they end up paying for the call. Best thing is don't ring them back; if it's important, real people usually ring your mobile shortly after.

I’ve heard that OFCOM and the UK Government might be behind this, supposedly sponsoring call centres to bother folks who aren’t even on their networks. Got a call at about half ten this morning from someone claiming to be Manchester police. They said they were doing a survey but only wanted people under 60 because they’d apparently filled their quota for over 60s. I told them I’m 77, and they ended the call quite politely. Still feels a bit dodgy to me - could be a risky number to deal with.
