I've had a bit of a run-in with this number-it's linked to SMSR, the outfit responsible for conducting surveys for the police complaints commission. They seem to reach out to folks like me, particularly after there's been a complaint about how the police handled an incident of assault. I shared my thoughts with Sophie at SMSR, voicing my annoyance at the lack of courtesy on the police's part for having these constant calls made by SMSR without prior notice. It feels quite rant-worthy, to say the least! Sophie acknowledged my viewpoint, yet she insisted that this is just the method they’ve chosen to adopt for gathering feedback on police conduct. It’s all rather baffling, to say the least, isn’t it?

I got a call from SMSR, which is a legit research group operating under the Data Protection Act. They do surveys for police forces in England and Wales. The call was basically a follow-up asking for feedback about the police service I got, since I was a victim of a crime about two months before. Due to data protection rules, they can’t reveal much unless they’re talking to the right person. I was a bit skeptical at first, but it’s definitely real - you can check for yourself!

They kept ringing me non-stop, and since I never picked up, I looked the number up online and found this site, so I blocked them. Despite that, calls kept coming but with no ID shown. I finally answered to demand they delete my details from their records. A bloke with a Liverpool accent claimed to be from ACA, saying it was a “government” body dealing with a road traffic accident I supposedly had in the past 3 years, asking what I intended to do with compensation held for me by the other party. Coincidentally, I had an accident nearly three years ago, but it was entirely my fault, so no chance I was owed money or giving out any personal info. I firmly told him I wasn’t interested and to erase my number from their system. It really winds me up!

Got a sketchy call from an unknown number today. I looked it up online and all signs pointed to it being a scam. Found a bunch of posts where people said the callers pretended to be cops, sales reps, or surveyors trying to fool folks. Definitely dodgy!

This number keeps ringing me up loads of times, and I just don’t pick up since I don’t know who it is. Back in February 2014, I had some trouble with a car crime, and I reckon insurance firms are passing around your info. It’s not just this one number either - there’s quite a few pest callers pretending to be from companies trying to “help” after your supposed ‘accident’ even if it’s nothing to do with you. I’ve tried getting through TPS but they haven’t done much to stop it yet…

I just got a ring from them, and like I usually do with any number I don’t recognise, I didn’t pick up but looked it up online straightaway to check if it was junk - which nearly always it is. Recently I got some new landline phones for the house, they’re Panasonics (though I can’t remember the exact model), and honestly, they might be the best thing I’ve bought in ages. The great thing is, when a call turns out to be annoying, I just block it. Since doing that, the amount of dodgy calls has dropped drastically, so I’m well chuffed. I reckon the TPS never really made a difference for us, but these phones have been a game changer. I’ve probably blocked about 40 numbers now, haha. Hope this helps anyone dealing with the same hassle!

Just got a call about a car break-in that I’d apparently reported to the Police. Thing is, nothing was stolen(!) so I never contacted my insurers - didn’t want to be flagged on that CUE database and face higher premiums for years! The caller knew the date but couldn’t give me any specifics, citing ‘data protection’ (classic excuse), or maybe just didn’t have the info to hand. So the call felt legit, but like others said, why on earth would the Police share that info, especially when I hadn’t asked for any follow-up? Bit odd if you ask me.
