Got a call from these idiots on our landline today and, just like always, they hung up as soon as the answerphone picked up. It’s obvious their systems just blast out calls to loads of numbers all at once. Unfortunately, I can’t block their number just yet, so I’ve changed the phone to pick up after only two rings. Got a call from someone claiming to be an energy advice team, who immediately started quizzing us about our boiler and mentioned some “upgrade scheme” supposedly available nearby. They actually asked for us by name, and the number looked local. I told them our boiler is all good and just had a check-up not long ago. Then they tried to scare me with talk about legal problems and safety issues, pressing again on how old the boiler was. I told them I was tied up and that I’m registered on the TPS, so shouldn’t be getting calls like this. They said they’d make a note of it and update their records. The caller was courteous and not pushy, but still breaking TPS rules.

I asked her why she didn’t bother checking the TPS list before calling me as it’s meant to stop these annoying cold calls. She just shrugged it off and said their numbers are chosen at random anyway.
