Pretty sure it’s British Gas calling. I’ve got a very similar number saved in my call history. A few weeks ago I picked up and it was a woman on the line - probably because I’d been looking at comparison sites not long before (right before prices went crazy). Since then, I’ve had loads of dodgy spam calls too. This almost-match number called me twice just today. A few weeks ago, the lady said they couldn’t beat my existing deal but wanted to try again later. They did ring today but the phone barely rang twice before the call dropped.

She was really convincing, knew loads of personal stuff about me like my name and address - even though I’ve never signed up with BG. I didn’t pick up, but when I looked the number up here, it was clear it was some kind of scam.

Got a call on my mobile, which isn’t something that happens often. The guy, who had a strong accent, said my last name before my first, strangely enough. He claimed he was with British Gas. I told him straight away I’m not a customer, so he shouldn’t be ringing me. I reckon he noticed I was annoyed. Ended the call pretty quickly.

They were asking for everything - my date of birth, bank info and where I live. Totally a scam, no doubt about it!
