The scam can last hours and then suddenly stop, likely when scammers move on to new numbers. Some have reported it to their phone provider, but solutions offered are limited, like changing numbers, which can be inconvenient. 4 yearsI got a call saying Amazon had charged my account, asking me to press 1 if it was me or 2 if it wasn’t. The number seemed to be a local landline. A few years back, our landline got cloned the same way and we ended up getting loads of calls from confused people about the same message. This one lasted only a few hours and then stopped just as suddenly as it began. After that, a bunch of people rang us back because they had heard the message on their answerphones.Amazon4 yearsI've received calls claiming money is being withdrawn from my account by either Amazon or Microsoft. They prompt you to press 1 if the details are incorrect. Oddly, the call seems to be coming from a landline. This isn't the first time we’ve dealt with something dodgy like this; a couple of years back, scammers managed to clone our home number. We were inundated with calls from folks who had received a similar message, all purportedly from our number. It was relentless for nearly an entire day, with more calls rolling in from those who missed the earlier attempts. Then, just as abruptly as it began, the calls stopped-presumably, the scammers had moved on to another number. We did reach out to our phone provider after the first wave of calls, but their only advice was to change our number. We opted against that as it would have created turmoil with everyone in our address book.AmazonMicrosoftSubmit Your Own Report (01482 259441)
