A caller reached out claiming to be from Amazon, informing me that a £49 gift card had been bought using my account from a different location. She mentioned that they’ve put a hold on the transaction for 24 hours to verify things with me. When I denied making such a purchase, she became quite insistent, offering to assist me in cancelling the order and inquired about the device I was using for my Amazon purchases. At this point, I grew increasingly sceptical as she was rather aggressive, stating that time was of the essence since the 24-hour window was nearly closed. I asked for her name and the official Amazon contact number, but she repeatedly insisted she was with Amazon. I explained that since this was an unsolicited call, I couldn’t take her word for it. In the end, I told her that I would reach out to Amazon myself to check if there was indeed an order to cancel.
