6 yearsA man with an Asian accent called me from a very loud place saying he was with Openreach and that my router wasn't performing properly, that engineers were fixing it right now. He told me to go to a website to check my broadband speed. I told him a few times I thought it was a scam, but he insisted he was from BT. After doing the speed check, he asked for the results and put me on to a “technician.” That's when I ended the call. I've seen lots of chatter about this scam, and Openreach never ring customers directly - they’re an external contractor for BT. The last time this scam popped up was back in 2018, so it looks like it's making a comeback.
