Earlier today, just as I was settling down for my lunch, I received a call from a lady boasting a strong Indian accent. She claimed to be from Halifax and wanted to chat about my account and some recent withdrawals. Instantly, I felt a sense of unease, so I promptly ended the call. I decided to ring up a colleague of mine who works at Halifax for clarification. She confirmed my suspicions, informing me that the woman who called was most likely a scam artist since that particular number doesn't belong to their records and they don't operate like that at all.

My mum got a call from a lady claiming to be from Halifax Building Society. The woman said if my mum wanted to talk about her account, she should ring her back on the number given. I warned my mum that banks don’t usually use local numbers like that, they tend to be 0845 or something similar. Seems really dodgy to me.
