Once more, a courteous lady’s voice, maybe a bit robotic, said she was from a will writing company. She wanted me to verify my postcode. I asked where they got my phone number from. She said, “We’re only sending info to folks around you. Sorry for bothering you,” and then ended the call. Got a call from this number today, and they've called me a few times before. They claimed to be from a local will writing service. I said I’d report them to the TPS. I checked out the company’s site, and it looks legit. But when I reported it, the TPS said it wasn’t the real company ringing me, but someone pretending to be them. So yeah, it’s a scam. They’re pretty sly with their wording, so if you’re not paying attention, you might end up giving out your info without realising.

We usually screen our calls with the answerphone. This number shows up as local to North Herts for us, but we still let it go through to the answerphone. The call ended right as the recorded message kicked in. I looked the number up and turns out it’s linked to one of those well known scams about Will writing services.

Got a call blocked by TrueCall, glad I had it set up beforehand. It felt more like someone trying to gather data than anything legit. Only dodgy companies seem to ring you in the UK these days, ignore your TPS sign-up completely. Any real law firm would be aware of the rules since the owners would be responsible if they broke cold-calling laws! Someone said they tried to ring the number back but no luck, so I’m thinking it’s a spoofed caller ID, probably from abroad - maybe a former Commonwealth country like India or Ghana/Nigeria. To me, it’s not just annoying but quite risky.

I quickly told the caller that during the current coronavirus situation, it’s completely out of order and feels like they’re targeting vulnerable folks. I also mentioned that, having worked in law for over 20 years, they can get lost and are nothing but a parasite. I tried calling them back but the line is constantly busy. No shock there! Got a call from some guy saying he was from a will writing and probate firm in Hitchin. When I asked where he got my details, he said they bought a list of numbers. I told him we're on the TPS and he said there must be an error and he'd take our number off their list.
