Had a couple of ring-ins from this number today, it showed up as 'Internat' which made me think straight away it wasn’t a proper UK line. I answered the first call but kept quiet, felt fishy from the start, and heard nothing back, just silence, so I ended the call. After that, I added the number to my block list. When they tried calling again about thirty minutes later, my phone didn’t even sound off.

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent who wanted to chat with my wife and even used her actual name. Claimed he was from some kind of phone service company. It was clearly one of those annoying scam calls. I gave him a proper telling off and told him to buzz off in the classic British way.

Got a call from 01457 8920145 this morning at about 9.10. The person said they were from something like Telephone Preference Service and offered to put me on a block list. They asked a bunch of typical stuff like my name and where I live. Then I got transferred to someone who said his name was James. Felt fishy right away, so when he started asking for expiry date and some long reference number (never mentioned any sort code or legit info), I told him I was ending the call. Of course, he kept saying he was just trying to assist me, but nope, I wasn’t having it.

When I asked who it was, the bloke said it was some Telephone Preference Management Service and that he wanted to help me stop nuisance calls. Yeah, right, like TPS would bother doing that on a bank holiday. I then tried ringing Virgin, my phone company, to sort it out, but their nuisance call helpline is 'currently experiencing problems’. Feels like everyone’s having the same issue!

When I asked what number he was dialling from, he said 02036311336. Then I asked what company he was with and he claimed it was Telephone Preference Management. I told him to take me off their list but he said he couldn’t do that. Got fed up and told him to get lost, but he kept going so I just hung up. Then I checked the number by dialling 1471 and turns out it was 01457820145 calling me again. Proper nuisance!

Then he asked if I sort out the phone bills by direct debit. I told him I’m not the one who pays the bills, so he wanted to talk to whoever does. Sounds like they were trying to get us to sign up for some call blocking service, probably to make money off us!

When I called him out for being a fake and a cheat, he hung up straight away. Now I wish I’d jotted down that number so I could report it to Action Fraud. This number kept ringing me nonstop all through yesterday and today (Saturday). Whenever I answer, all I get is a click and some robot voice saying 'goodbye'. How come BT lets these old, unused numbers get taken over by scammers? It's ridiculous. We’ve had about a dozen calls in just two days. I’ve blocked it now, but this isn’t a one-off thing and won’t be the last unless the phone companies step in and sort it out. Obviously a scam, so do yourself a favour and block it too!
