This morning my dad got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC, saying they were giving him a refund. It was strange timing because he'd just paid his Self Assessment online a few days ago. The woman, who had an accent that sounded Asian, seemed like she was going to ask for his bank info, but when he started asking about the assessment he’d just done, she just hung up.

I picked up the phone and there was a weird silence for a bit, which already made me think it was a scam. Then a bloke with an Asian accent asked if I was xxx, but used my wife's name, which was wrong. I told him no straight away and he hung up. About an hour later the same number rang again, but I didn’t bother answering. Also, a few days back, someone called claiming I’d won the Post Code Lottery, which is weird because I’ve never entered it.

Got a call off a guy saying he was from Aviva, trying to “check up” on my life insurance. I told him I don’t have any Aviva policies, then he switched to saying he just wanted to make sure my coverage was enough. I mentioned that my daughter works at Aviva’s HQ and asked where he was calling from. He claimed London, even though the number wasn’t a London one. He was quite slick but suddenly got annoyed when I said I’d pass the phone to my daughter and then he just hung up. Proper cheeky behaviour if you ask me.

Got a call this morning around 8.06am from someone claiming to be with HMRC, saying I was due a refund. Then he handed me over to a “manager” called Ruby, who asked for my bank details and card info. They even seemed to know my address! I’d just woken up and couldn’t quite make out everything, so I told them I couldn’t find the info right now and they said they’d ring back in an hour.
