I received an unexpectedly lengthy phone call from a woman with an Indian accent, claiming to represent BT and offering me an astonishing discount that was, amusingly, greater than my actual monthly bill. When I probed for validation, she provided me with a phone number, an address, and a postcode, which she claimed was the BT head office. Strangely enough, she also had my full name and home address, postcode included! When I was asked for my first name, she informed me that I’d have to reveal my BT password by the end of the conversation. Naturally, I was quite firm in my refusal to share any personal details. After a bit of back-and-forth, I hung up and decided to investigate the number she called from. The number I found is above, and it’s rather hilarious that it’s not even the one she’d given as proof of BT affiliation! 😂😂😂

Some bloke rang me from BT or so he claimed, talking about my landline - which struck me as weird since my landline isn’t even with BT. He sounded like he was reading out of some ancient phone directory. I asked if he could give me a number to ring back on to prove he was from BT. That seemed to throw him off a bit. Then I asked for my BT account number, even though I don't have one, and he said he’d check it on their system. After that I just told him to jog on - might need to find out how to say that in Indian to get my point across properly.

Got a call from a woman with an Asian accent saying she was with BT, trying to get my bank details. I said no straight away, but she kept insisting it was to arrange a direct debit. I told her again I wasn’t sharing anything and ended the call. Weird thing is, she already had my name and address.

I got a call on my mobile from someone who actually had my name and address, which was a bit worrying. They tried to blag me into giving my bank details by saying I could get a discount on my BT landline. When they couldn’t figure out how I paid the bill, they asked for my bank info to "update the direct debit". It’s clear these scammers already have some of your info and just want to pile on more to make their data more valuable. Just remember, every bit of info you give them only helps them get better at ripping people off.

Some bloke called claiming I qualified for a discount and kept asking which bank I used. I told him he should have that info already and refused to say. Then I asked him to send everything in writing because I wanted proof before agreeing to anything. After that, I just said no cheers and ended the call. Later, I came on here to see what others said.

They said they’d offer me a better discount on my phone line, but it was a total scam. The number’s now blocked by Action Fraud, the national cyber crime folks. They told me the supervisor was called ‘Alex Russell’ and gave an address at 221 Bow Rd, London. Be careful, it’s not legit!

Got a call from 01444 300055, supposed to be BT, from a guy with an Indian accent saying they’ve got new software to stop hackers. When I asked him for his number, he actually gave it without hesitation, which was odd. But when I looked the number up online, no BT info showed up anywhere. I’m still pretty sure this isn’t a real BT call. If it really was, BT would need to work a lot harder to convince me. For now, I’m treating it as dodgy and reckon it’s best to just hang up and ignore these calls.
