Got a call from Barclays saying I’ve set up a new direct debit. They told me to call the 01442 number if that wasn’t right. Honestly, don’t bother ringing back - sounds like a scam to get your bank info. If you ring, you might end up losing your cash, so best just ignore it!

Here’s some info on how to report scam emails. Letting your bank know is wise because they can warn other customers. But if you report it to the cyber crime unit, the police are more likely to take action. Also, informing your email provider helps - they usually block or mark those scam addresses as spam everywhere. It looks like this scam uses the same phone number but switches email addresses, so keep flagging them whenever you see one. Don’t forget to check the updates on the posts below for more details.

I received a couple of emails supposedly about setting up a new payment plan for Radbrook Dental Practice, saying I had a first payment of nearly £400 coming up soon. They warned me to call if I hadn’t approved it. The first one claimed to be from Santander, but the second mentioned Barclays instead. Both were signed off as from the ‘Customer Service Team’. The sender’s address was something like [email protected]. I never called the number given and made sure to forward both emails to the banks’ phishing departments. Seemed like a clear scam to me.

This email pretends to be from Barclays, saying there’s a new payment for a dental clinic and gives a number to call if something’s wrong. But there’s loads of signs that it’s not real. It’s definitely a scam. Best to just ignore it.

Got an email from someone pretending to be a dental surgery in Shrewsbury, but I live like 200 miles from there. Then there’s one saying it’s Barclays, asking for payment over the weekend, which is odd enough as banks don’t usually do that. I don’t even have an account with Barclays, so clearly a con. Most likely they want your bank info over the phone and it’s not a real landline number. Just ignore it, definitely a scam.

Just got an email claiming it’s from Santander saying that a direct debit of £379.99 has been arranged for Didsbury Dental Practice in Manchester, with the first payment due on 23rd December. The message included a warning about security, saying if I didn’t set this up and think it’s unauthorised, I should get in touch with their specialised team straight away. They gave a phone number to call security experts: 01442 959942. Signed off as The Fraud Team with kind regards. Seems a bit dodgy to me.
