Got a message from someone claiming to be from the inland revenue saying I owed taxes and to call their office back, but the call came from a mobile number. The inland revenue never rings you like this. It’s sad because an old bloke I know actually fell for it and handed over a grand. Honestly, how low can these scumbags get?

Got a ring from someone called Mike saying he worked for either Aviva or Legal & General, talking about a recent payment and asking which company I was with - I was proper puzzled about who he was actually calling for. Definitely felt like some dodgy identity theft grab. When he realised I was only messing about and not interested, he started calling me a bloody a-hole. I doubt any proper call centre agent would snap like that when you're still being polite and telling them you’re about to hang up.

This looks like a pretty bad try at stealing someone's identity. From what I’m seeing in the comments, they've been at it quite a bit. Using a landline for it is really daft - I bet the police would want to have a word about this.

Got a call on my phone from this number, a bloke with an Indian accent. He asked me, "Are you satisfied with your credit card?" I told him I don't even have one. Then he goes, "I'm not trying to sell you one, but you're below 79, right?" I said yes, and then he just said thanks and bye. I was pretty confused and had to look it up online. Can't really recall where he said he was calling from, was a bit distracted when I answered.

I told her that was very unlikely as I haven’t been with BT for ages and she just hung up. The number showed as Hemel Hempstead. I used to live there and still got mates nearby, so it’s really irritating to answer and get a dodgy call like that!

Got a call from someone chatting about 'energy' stuff - sounds like one of those marketing calls. Didn't get much outta it, just felt like a sales pitch.

I got a call from some firm wanting to do a review on my electric meter. When I told them I actually live with my mum and dad and they weren’t about to talk, they just ended the call on me. Proper rude and really sudden as well.

No idea who that was. They wouldn’t say their name to my phone that blocks calls, so they just hung up.
