I got a call from someone claiming to be from BT, asking me to switch on my laptop so they could connect to it. I told them they must take me for a fool and asked them not to ring me again. I’ve got my answering machine doing the heavy lifting for me these days. The message I’ve set up clearly states that we don’t take calls from cold callers; I do ask folks to leave a message, and I’ll return their call when I can! They kept ringing me non stop. So I decided to call back! Total scammers! I could hear a kid crying in the background. A guy with a strong northern accent called Jade and was really suspicious when I mentioned some ‘gov scheme’ about replacing boilers and storage heaters. Told them I had neither (which is true). Bit of a joke - it’s meant to be some government thing, but they’re cold calling illegally. Honestly, this feels dodgy and possibly dangerous since it’s clearly a scam.

I must say, these incessant calls don't really faze me anymore. After enduring countless interruptions, I've taken to ignoring my phone altogether. Once they’ve called, I just hit up 1471, and if it’s someone I actually care about, I give them a ring back. It’s quite amusing to think of these callers squandering their time on me, and I find a certain satisfaction in that realisation. If a few more folks would adopt my approach, perhaps these persistent callers would finally get the hint. It’s a shame, though, that so many easily led individuals continue to fall for their tactics, serving as little more than pawns in their game.
