Then I tried calling the number back, it just rang and never got picked up after about half a minute, so I gave up. Looked up the number online and landed on this site. I'm registered with the TPS, so I'll be reporting it.

I've experienced something quite similar - received a call from a robotic voice claiming I'd authorised a £1000 charge from Amazon. It instructed me to press 1 if I wanted to cancel the transaction. Got a call from someone saying they were from my bank, talking about some transfers that apparently didn’t fit my usual spending. I've got this recorded message six times in the last six weeks saying my card was used for £300 on Amazon and £1200 abroad. It's totally dodgy and sounds like a classic scam. This was obviously a scam, trying to nick your cash. An automated call told me that over £1000 had been withdrawn from my bank via Amazon and some stranger. They wanted me to hit 1 to stop the payment or 2 to chat with their "support" team. The robot voice was really broken up, sounds like it was chopped from loads of different clips.
