Around 5:50 pm, a person with an Asian accent called saying they were from Anglian Windows, asking if I was interested in home improvements. When I said no, they quickly got quite rude, so I ended the call.

This evening around 7:30, a woman rang up asking for my husband by his name. When I asked what was the reason, she said she wanted to confirm how he paid for his TV licence. I explained my husband is 75 and isn't required to pay for one. She insisted he still needs a licence and asked again how he pays. I got quite fed up and told her it's by post. After that, she just hung up. I've blocked the number now, especially since I'm with Talk Talk and they already provide that service.

A woman claimed she was calling from a market research firm wanting to find out how folks get their TV licences. She said it would only take about 10 minutes, so I decided not to join in. It sounded innocent enough, but I’ve seen loads of comments here saying these aren’t really market research calls. I’d be cautious with these.

Got a call from a man asking for someone by name. I told him they no longer live here. Then he wanted to talk to whoever handles the water bill, said he was from Northwest Water and had some questions about the supply. I told him I don’t do phone surveys. He just said alright and ended the call. Seems like some sort of marketing tactic, but who knows what his real deal was?!

Said she was calling from United Utilities about a survey on my water service. I mentioned I hadn't heard of any updates. We went through my age bracket and then she asked if I'd be willing to pay more than I already do to support pensioners having trouble paying their water bills. If you keep getting silent or dropped calls, make sure you report them to OFCOM. These spammers ignore comments here, but actually get bothered when Ofcom gets involved. It only takes a couple of minutes to do it on their websites. Don’t expect your phone provider to help much, they mostly just make money from selling caller ID services and call blocking.

A female voice on the line mentioned that they were collecting information regarding NHS services nationwide and wished to pose a few questions about my local NHS experience. The call came in at a rather odd time, 5.45 in the evening - hardly typical office hours, which made me feel rather uneasy. Given that my number is meant to be private, this unsolicited contact was far from welcome. I promptly declined to engage and hung up. In hindsight, I really ought to have inquired just how they obtained my number in the first place!
