Judging by what people are saying here, it seems like Scottish Power are the ones ringing up, pushing smart metres on you. I had the same argument with them last year, they claimed it’s a legal requirement to have one, which is rubbish. It’s not the law at all. Don’t be fooled by their pressure. There’s no need to get a smart metre fitted. Try your best to say no.

Got a call from an Indian guy who knew my full name and claimed he was with Scottish Power. Said it was about upgrading my meter to a smart one. When I told him I wasn’t interested, he asked me to repeat that and after I did, he just said “oh ok” and ended the call. What a horrible company. I had my gas meter capped ages ago and asked for it to be removed. Surprisingly, this isn’t some huge rip-off. It’s actually Scottish Power trying to persuade you to get a smart meter fitted. Their system sounds like it’s working on scam-mode though - when you pick up there's an awkward pause that makes you nervous, followed by a weird, quite alarming electrical buzzing noise before the auto-dialler kicks in (definitely unsettling), and then you finally get through to a proper person on the other end. This person has a set script to follow, and no matter what you say, they’re sticking to it like glue.

Well, they’ve knocked on my door six times over the last few months! First time was just to read the meter, then again to take photos of it. After that, they gave me a long spiel about smart meters, then came back for more readings and photos. After a few visits I had to tell them to F off. Seems like they just won’t take no for an answer.

Got a call on my phone from 0141 8466477 about getting a smart meter fitted. I told them I wasn’t interested, then the woman said she’d add a note to my file saying no thanks, but first I had to do some kind of data protection check. Had a similar ring a few months back, but hung up when they asked for my date of birth. Definitely a con!

Got called a couple times today from someone saying they were from Scottish Power. I said straight away "no thanks, not interested in a smart meter", and then they kept pushing asking why, so I told them I'm done talking about it. The second time they rang, I asked them to remove me from their calling list, and they tried to get me to give my email to confirm it. I told them "YOU called ME, I’m not handing over my info," they can just take me off. Felt dodgy, so I looked up the number online and found this site... glad I wasn't just overthinking it.

I didn’t pick up since it showed as a possible scam. Right after, I got a text saying I’d missed a call from them, claiming to be from O2, with instructions to press numbers for different choices. I just ignored it and deleted the message. No idea who it was actually.

SCAM ALERT!!! I never asked for a smart meter, so this call was strange right from the start. The lady on the phone spoke quickly and unclearly. I said no the first time, but the next day I got another call. This time it was a bloke, and he also sounded muffled, almost like he was using a weird voice. Getting the same offer twice felt really dodgy. So, I looked up the number and no shocker, it was a scam. Makes me wonder if Scottish Power leaked my info or something???
