I did a bit of sleuthing, and it turns out this isn't an authentic EE number. It appears to be yet another dodgy scammer posing as an EE representative, trying to lure me in with a supposed discount on my mobile plan.

I answered a call from a really friendly guy called Nigel, who said he could knock off 95% from my Asda mobile bill. Had to fork out £1000 straight away for a lifetime deal. He promised the discount should kick in inside two days. Seemed legit and all in all, a reliable outfit.

I got a call from some promotional team or whatever. I told them I wasn’t interested but then the bloke kept saying ‘listen, listen’. I just told him no again and they ended up hanging up. Fairly sure it was an Asian guy on the line.

I could tell it was spam since they hung up as soon as my answering machine kicked in. They didn’t bother sticking around to hear a single word.

Got a call earlier, someone claiming to be from Virgin asking about my monthly bills. I was nice but quickly told them to jog on.

I had a call from someone claiming to be "EE". As soon as I told them I’ve never had any contact with EE and that their call was unwanted and basically against the law, they started to sound nervous. I warned them that if they ever showed up in the UK, they could get into serious trouble with the law. This seemed to really rattle them and they ended up swearing before hanging up abruptly.

Over the past day, I got 5 missed calls from these numbers: 0141 673 8731, 020 8040 2792 and 020 8040 2798. Didn’t pick up any of them and they didn’t leave a single message. Feels like they’re all connected somehow. I hardly ever get scam calls, so this is a bit odd.

So, I picked up the phone and the moment I did, they just ended the call straight away. Then when I tried to call my mates, none of the numbers would go through for about five minutes. Honestly, it gave me a right scare.

On the evening of 26th January 2023, around 6:15 pm, my mobile got a ring from 0141 673 8731, which is somewhere in Glasgow, Scotland. I chose not to pick up. Later, when I tried calling it back from my landline, there was no ring at all, just silence and then the call dropped. I've decided to block this number now.
