At first, it seemed genuine when he mentioned a director’s name, but then he started rattling off the names of other directors linked to businesses we own that have nothing to do with his company. When I asked him to ring later when we weren’t so busy, he flat out said no, so we ended the call. He kept ringing back though, constantly, and eventually blocked our number. Proper pain.

Subsequently, a male colleague with a strong Indian accent rang back, stating our meter was faulty and needed replacing. I expressed my uncertainty about his identity as a representative of Octopus Energy and asked him for my account number for verification. Rather brusquely, he responded, "Look, your meter's over-reading and you're being overcharged. Do you want it changed or not?" I declined, as we had recently installed a new meter that had been thoroughly checked. His response was surprisingly aggressive-he shouted, "Go f--- yourself!" before abruptly ending the call. I've reported this incident to Octopus as a potential scam.

I had the misfortune of encountering an exceedingly insistent caller attempting to impose a rather unwelcome installation of a meter from an energy provider named ‘Opus’ on my elderly father's behalf. Luckily, I happened to be there and seized the phone, firmly informing the caller that they were not set to come over since nothing had been scheduled with us. In response, he rather abruptly switched his tune, claiming, "Oh, we always make a call first, agree on a date, and then proceed to send confirmation." Complete and utter drivel if you ask me! I ended the call, but he nonsensically called back and kept ringing for an uninterrupted 4 minutes, utterly relentless. He introduced himself as ‘David Smith’, though his accent suggested this wasn't quite the truth!

Got a call from someone claiming to be from Octopus, saying they needed to check my meter and wanted me to send a reading via WhatsApp first. I double-checked with Octopus, and they don’t ask for readings on WhatsApp at all. They rang again the following day, wondering why I hadn’t replied. I told them I’d reported the call, then they abruptly hung up. Definitely a scam.

Got a call from someone saying they were with EDF. I rang EDF myself and they said it wasn’t them. The caller asked me for a picture of my electric meter and then rang back later. I told them EDF had no clue who they were, and then they just ended the call.

Got a call from someone saying they were from my energy company, Octopus, but they didn’t even know my name. They then sent me a message on WhatsApp about booking a time to swap out my broken meter. I checked with Octopus directly and they told me they had nothing to do with it! No clue what the scam was meant to be, but they definitely weren’t legit.

Got a ring from this number saying they’d be visiting to check my meter on a specific date and time, but they wanted me to send a photo of it first to verify things. Then he offered to send me the serial number over Whatsapp as "proof," which honestly made me trust him even less. I asked him to confirm my account number and recent meter reading, but he couldn’t. He said he’d call back the next day, but I’m still not convinced this is legit.

I've been receiving incessant calls at work from individuals pretending to be our supplier, yet they seem utterly clueless about which company they represent. It’s quite alarming! For months now, they've bombarded us with calls, sometimes multiple times a day. The language they use is beyond rough; I've encountered some real tough talkers who don’t shy away from shouting and swearing. After I finally managed to end a call, they’ve even had the audacity to ring back, continuing their tirade and demanding to know why I hung up on them. What a disgraceful experience!

I called them out for trying to scam me, and they even threatened to visit my office to mess me up. Lovely bunch. I kept them chatting for about 15 minutes, stopping them from tricking anyone else less wary.

Kept getting calls about some energy plan and meter change. We thought it was SSE sorting out a new meter since we were expecting one, but they kept ringing asking for more info and to sign a new contract (which was odd since we already had one, bit dodgy). They also sent an email from "[email protected]" which nearly caught us out if we hadn’t noticed the dodgy email address. Didn’t share any info, just seemed really scammy.

I’ve been getting calls from this number (01416287384). The person claims to be from Eon Electronics and tells me my meter reading from last month didn’t go through. They asked for my meter details and mentioned booking a smart meter visit. They even wanted me to send photos of my meter. Our phone is 07713310469. We didn’t give them any info because when I checked my account, everything seemed fine. The caller also said I supposedly have a £400 credit (which isn't true) and needed my readings to get the money. Feels like a total scam to me.
