Every now and then, I let the telemarketer run through their whole spiel, and then, using my most genuinely understanding tone, I say: Look, I get it. Times are rough and you’ve got to earn a living. We’ve all been stuck in rubbish jobs just to pay the bills. But honestly, is this what brings you any kind of joy? When you clock off, do you feel like you’ve made a difference? And when you wake up, are you excited to start your day? Surely there must be something better out there for you.
