It was Tesco Bank calling me, but if you're ever suspicious, just look up the official Tesco Bank contact details online and call them yourself. The caller actually mentioned that if you're ever in doubt, it’s best to just end the call and ring the number found on your credit card. This morning I got a call from this number about a big charge on my Tesco Credit card from Amazon France that supposedly got declined. The bloke started by saying who he was and even asked if I wanted to ring him back since he was calling from an unknown number, but I carried on with the call. Apparently, the charge was quite high, so they’d put a hold on the card. He then asked me a few security questions and went over some of my past purchases. After all that, he seemed convinced that I wasn’t forced into making the payment and told me the hold should be lifted within 10 to 15 minutes.

I’ve actually had real fraud on my account recently and it’s already locked, so I knew this was off. Real Tesco Bank staff always give me a password before I say anything, but this caller kept trying to make me answer security questions and share personal info without giving any password back. Then they asked for my date of birth, which I gave, and the credit limit. I couldn't remember exactly cause I changed it recently, so I gave a wrong figure and they said it was okay. Beware of fraudsters posing as accident specialists! I received a call from a female robotic voice claiming I was part of a car accident. The strange thing is, I actually was involved in an accident about two years ago, so I naively confirmed their inquiry. Almost immediately, I was put through to a person with a heavy accent, whose grasp of English was quite poor. Just five minutes into the conversation, I had my card in hand, ready to relay my details. It was only when my wife walked in and queried who I was sending money to that I realised something was amiss. She informed me about her boss who lost nearly £4000 to a similar scam, prompting me to abruptly end the call. It turns out that as soon as they obtain your card information, they can wreak havoc on your bank account in no time!

It was weird how the woman asked for my bank info. I ended the call and plan to reach out to Tesco myself since she claimed to be from their credit card department.

Got a call from this number claiming to be Tesco Credit Card. The woman on the line didn’t sound right at all. To be sure, I rang Tesco Bank using the number on the back of my card. Turns out the number was fake and a scam.
