The caller used a fake American accent, claimed to be in Reading but actually called from a Glasgow landline. When challenged, the caller got upset and insisted they were genuine. Seems like a classic attempt to trick people, though hopefully not many fall for it.

some bloke pretending to be from microsoft calling me from a landline in glasgow but said he was based in reading. he claimed my computer was in danger from hackers and only he could fix it. when i told him the real threat was him, he got all defensive, calling himself a “genuine person” - ha! it’s mad how casual these scammers are (dodgy american accent, saying reading but actually ringing from scotland). still, i suppose there must be folks who fall for it.
